My favorite Line of the Day

Slice: "That wasn't as fun as I thought it would be." (Driving home after his mission reunion.)

Me: "What wasn't?"

Slice: "Going to the reunion with....you know...a wife."

Silence.

  1. Is that something that's generally fun?

Dizzle has never shown the slightest inkling of desire to take me to a reunion (mission or class). I try not to be offended.

  2. I had mixed feelings about the whole thing. Slice's mission president is here from Japan, so I got to meet him and his wife, that was fun. And it was fun to watch Slice w/ former mission companions (some of whom just got home, many are still gone) talk about 'good times.'
It was slightly frustrating to sit there while they all spoke Japanese, but I could understand that too because I miss German a lot.
The annoying thing was being there as a trophy. One guy said, "My goal was to bring a girl to this reunion...as you can see, that didn't happen."
And Slice continued after the post-comment, "I outdid them all! Well.....I outdid myself too." Nice cover babe. :)

  3. Agreed, the trophy business would be annoying.

WHEN will the missionaries drop their focus on finding a trophy-I-mean-wife the second they're home? Huge issue for me. Obviously it works out nicely for some folks (obviously), but I have witnessed some crazy-bad marital situations arise from the good intentions of mission presidents/missionaries.

Dizzle's pres had nine wise words for him in his exit interview: "Elder, there are plenty of fish in the sea." Dizzle took the advice to heart, and it served him (us, really) well.

It's all about right person, right time. For some people, yeah, those special ingredients combine right off the mish. For others, it can take four years (Dizzle) or eight years (Bob!). It's unrealistic and honestly really stupid for missionaries to assume they'll meet Princess Charming immediately post-mission, and that attitude leads many of them to do idiotic things.

Sorry, suuuuuper long and pretty far off-topic, but the guy with the goal set me off. :-)

  4. Yes, I was quite astonished by the RM's open admittance of (unnecessary) defeat. There are some things we just can't control--and for good reason.
If my life were under my total control, for example, I would be on a mission, in law school, and/or your sister-in-law right now.

    Alas.

  5. And I would still be single, and GOOD HEAVENS I don't even want to think about that.

Not that there's anything wrong with being single.

  6. Sounds like slice. I agree with the comments about trophies and having to take a girl to the reunion. I had a neighbor who convinced my roommate to play his girlfriend because he just couldn't go alone. How sad is that? Entertaining non the less!
